Wounds on dogs get infected FAST in Krabi

Warning: Some some of these images might be gross / shocking

Because of the hot and humid environment that we deal with in Krabi, Thailand; wounds on dogs in areas they can not reach behind or on their heads can not be cleaned by the dog licking them. Therefore, they quickly become infected and since (again) it is so hot and humid in Krabi, the insects set in and this makes the situation worse.

This lovely and very friendly girl was discovered by a local resident on Maharat road in Krabi town, which is one of the busiest roads in the entire province. She was being fed by locals but people were becoming less and less likely to approach her because of the relatively massive seeping wound that was just behind her neck. Dogs are pretty tough animals and handle injury well and his sweet girl was very approachable even though she almost certainly was in constant pain due to the infected and maggot infested wound just behind her head.

She was very compliant and east to capture for us to bring to our facilities where our wonderful veterinarians (who work for us without profit) were able to clear the wound, clean it and seal it up. During the entire process this very sweet dog never tried to fight us off even though we were almost certainly, at times, causing her a great deal of stress.

The next image is not for the faint hearted so if the one with all the puss disturbed you then you might want to go ahead and turn back for now or maybe visit www.krabianimalwelfare.org to learn more and help us out if you can.

We have no idea how she suffered this injury, but according to veterinarians it appears as though it might have been a knife or machete strike from an irritated local.

It is really amazing to us that after this, she still hasn't lost faith in humanity and allowed us to handle and help her to heal. It will take many more days or perhaps weeks of close monitoring in order to insure that she heals correctly before we can release her back into the "urban wild" that she resides in.

It really is remarkable to myself and the rest of us here at Krabi Animal Welfare that despite the horrible conditions that these animals exist and grow up in, they still maintain a friendly demeanor towards the humans that she interacts with. It truly is a testament to the unconditional love of dogs.

We are happy that we were made aware of her situation when we were so that we could intervene before this situation went beyond the point of no return.

it is our pleasure, thanks for your kind words :) To be honest the reward of seeing these dogs and cats healthy is reward enough - it really is a life-changing experience (for us) to be able to change the life of the animals.

i know that when i lived in southern Thailand my dog had a lot more problems just in general than when i moved away even to another part of Thailand. Mainly it was issues with parasites such as fleas and ticks but general skin problems too. This is a dog that gets treated like a princess too so for a dog living on the streets I can see it getting bad very quickly.

Poor animals!
