Owning a horse can be hard.
There is the cost in purchasing the horse, the cost in feeding the horse, and the horse doesn't usually give you meat, eggs, or milk. That said, many people just don't have any. Thankfully for the @little-peppers, a few of our neighbors have some, so they get to have some "horse time" from time to time without us actually owning a horse of our own. Here are a few recent photos of one of the horses near us with Pinkie-Pepper.

Ah, I thought it might be that one! That is the other big cost to owning a horse. It takes A LOT of consistent time training them. I had a friend back in Wisconsin who owned horses, and she said their personalities were very much like children. Left to themselves they will become lazy and obstinate. You can't just swoop in and expect them to perform on demand.

I can definitely understand not wanting to spend the money on a horse. Then again, people who have them normally tend to really love them, so it's hard to tell. Probably comes down to utility at this point.

I have owned... no, I have had to take care of horses half of my life.
And it was such a waste. All that money and feed and never riding them. It was very sad.
Especially when you can go rent a horse for a while to get all of your horsey desires met.

I am allergic to horses. But I was the one who took care of the animals.
I was the only one who would brush them. Or saddle them.

Horses are indeed a big expense and they need lots of attention and training. In other words, they are really time-consuming. Good if you have work for them. Better to visit the neighbour's horses.
