The largest flock of dolphins ever seen by man and filmed on video (video can be viewed in our group Vkontakte), stretched more than eleven kilometers in length and width was about eight. This mind-blowing spectacle could be seen off the coast of San Diego (USA) in mid-February 2013.
According to a rough estimate, a flock of dolphins consisted of a hundred thousand individuals. The lucky ones who managed to see the Dolphin-infested ocean with their own eyes were the passengers of a small ship managed by captain Joe Dutra, who was impressed by the numerous questions of journalists answered with only one phrase — "they were everywhere and sailed from all sides."
Usually pods of dolphins, migrating in small groups, numbering about two hundred individuals, and it is rarely that these mammals gather in larger flocks. What they saw so shocked the experts that the only assumption of such an invasion of dolphins, which they expressed is the presence of a huge amount of food in those places.
Sarah Wilkin, a researcher at a University studying marine mammals, said — " I've seen a lot at sea, but this huge flock of dolphins is the most incredible thing I've ever seen. If I had not seen it with my own eyes, I would never have believed that this is possible.»
