The most expensive pigeon in the world, sold for four hundred thousand dollars, became a homing pigeon with a very exotic name — Bolt. The pigeon named after the fastest man in the world, Jamaican Sprinter Usain Bolt, went under the hammer at a recent auction in Belgium.
Leo Eremans, a Belgian pigeon breeder who recently celebrated his 66th birthday, decided to sell all his birds because of age-related health problems and the inability to continue caring for pigeons.
Pigeons specially bred for participation in the competition, for the most part was purchased by Chinese and Taiwanese. Just was sold 530 doves. The total amount of proceeds for them amounted to almost $5.5 million.
The most expensive dove in the world, was also purchased by a resident from China. Now the Bolt has a great pedigree (his parents before they were lined with an impressive amount — more than two hundred thousand dollars) will only be used for breeding. His last flight on pigeon "races" he has already made.
