It is a characteristic inhabitant of mature forests in Europe , temperate Asia , and North America . In this vast territory it appears under a certain number of subspecies, which differ from one another by coloration and size, to such an extent that they were once considered native species. We can mention, for example, the great grizzlies ( Ursus arctos horribilis ) and the kodiak ( Ursus arctos middendorffi ). Their longevity is twenty-five to thirty years (known maximums of thirty-four years in the wild and forty-seven in captivity). It has a body length of between 1.50 and 2.95 m, depending on the subspecies, and a height at the withers of up to 1.30 m. Their weight also varies, from 100 to 675 kg .
