That’s right, I never thought I’d have this blog. It makes sense though. I used to be a writer and would make up so many stories I can no longer count them. However, I never ever finished any of them – they never had an ending. Over the years I lost my creative touch and stopped writing stories and roleplaying like I used to. I wanted to start writing again, but I didn’t want to RP and I didn’t want to write made up stories anymore. I just wanted to write. A couple of bloggers I’ve been watching for a while inspired me to want to write my own blog. After some time, it made sense to make one. I could write stories that are true and they never have to end. Why didn’t I think of this before?!
Anyway, so today this blog is about my dog Aria. I might ramble about some random things here and there, but will do my best to keep the focus on my little star.
Who is Aria?
Its is my husky who came to me at 5 months old. She was very shy – I remember thinking she was possibly abused but now I think differently. She is now 9 months old, born in February. She was a fluke and even more of a fluke that she ended up in my care. If you knew Aria when we had first met, you would not believe who she is today.
My goober. My star. My heart…
Aria taught me the true meaning of unconditional love for an animal. She taught me understanding for her kind, taught me how to speak without speaking, and taught me to respect things as they are. I did not expect to change Aria much. I mainly wanted a strong bond between us and that was all I cared about. Never did I think I’d be able to let go of her leash at a park and trust that she’d stay by my side, or have strangers do “walk by pets”.
When I got Aria, she was shy as shy can be. Very interested and curious, however, but would not allow you to just willy-nilly touch her or anything. You had to coax her – convince her that you were there to be friends, not harm her. When you reached for her head, if you were lucky enough to have her not duck and run from you, she would drop it down low. At first, to me, this showed signs she was possibly abused or neglected. As life went on with her I realized quite the opposite. Neglected, perhaps, but not abused. An abused dog would not let me cradle it’s head into my body. An abused dog would not allow me to play with, and do anything with their paws, tail, and ears. An abused dog would be more leery of more than half the things I’ve done to Aria, but she was not. She never is. Not with me anyway.
Our bond is so strong, Aria will allow me to do anything to her once, even if she’s deathly afraid of it. Nail clippers, sprays, ointments, you name it. If anyone else were to try to introduce something new to her and use it on her in the same day, she’d go absolutely ballistic I’m sure. To be honest, I’m very surprised even I can do these things to her. Half the time I’m as scared as she is, but for a different reason. I’ve worked hard on our bond and anything that can ruin it scares me. But I have to be strong for her and confident so she trusts I have her best interest in mind. And I truly believe she does see that.
It took time but I eventually brought out the true personality this girl has. She’s a complete goof. She’s perfectly fine playing by herself. She’s mouthy, but she does not like to keep my hands/fingers within her mouth. She seems to know that is not where they belong. She’ll come over and motion at me like she’s going to mouth my hand, but then just smears the side of her face against it instead. When we play, I’ve tried a couple times placing my hand in her mouth to see what she would do. She gets SUPER excited, removes my hand, then rubs on me and sits in my lap and no longer wants to play, but wants to be loved instead.
She’s a bandit…
There are lots of good qualities about Aria. We’ve gone through some bad ones, but I must admit, they’re no where near as bad as half the bad habits from animals I’ve seen before. Her worst is her secret bandit side. When you’re there with her, she’s as sweet and innocent as can be. Aside from the nose pokes, she will just stand and smile and watch you. But be warned! If you were to ever visit my home, you’d have to keep EVERYTHING up high or with you. Shoes are her personal favorite, and if you leave them in reach, as soon as you turn your back they will be gone (Or well… One of them anyway). She has no problem stealing interesting objects she has never seen before as well. The smaller, the less likely to be destroyed, but rather, played with. When she steals shoe sized items, we always get them back in many pieces… One of her favorite things to destroy? Paper!
One of these days I’ll get her, her own tissue box…
Anyway, I’m glad to finally be within the blogging community. I have a ton to learn still but hopefully it won’t take long. I have many stories about my little girl and her antics and will try to write about them as I remember. I’ll end my little intro post here for now but be sure to check back for more personal experiences with the rescue girl Aria. She’s bound to bring at least one smile to your face.
