Benefits at the physical level:

  • Females: we avoid polycystic ovaries, uterine cancer, hormone-related problems, psychological pregnancies and decreases the likelihood of mammary tumors.
  • Males: we avoid the appearance of different problems such as prostatitis, testicular cancer, adenomas, prostatic hyperplasia, hernias.
Both in females and males, we avoid the spread of diseases and problems of genetic transmission.

Other benefits:
Castration causes the reduction of sex hormones such as estrogen, progesterone and testosterone. Although the hormones will still be present, their levels will be notably lower, which directly influences the behavior of the animal.

In males, castration reduces the likelihood of urinating where it should not and presents other territorial behaviors, such as fighting with other cats.

tendency to wander far from home. In females, castration can reduce interest in male cats and their propensity to be excessively affective or aggressive.

At what time to carry out this procedure:

A trusted veterinarian will tell you what the right time is, although it can usually be done after 8 weeks of life or before the animal reaches sexual maturity, ideally.

Remember, it is very important that we perform castration on our cats as we avoid both problems and diseases to our animals and we will be more responsible because we avoid increasing the population of animals in street situations.

How dangerous is to castrate a cat? Can something wrong happen in that surgery?

Generally there are no dangers, even more are the benefits we get when castrating as discussed in the article and the second we say that all surgery involves a surgical risk, but in castrations the risk is minimal although all this will depend on the patient and the state in which you are, for this tests and exams are done before the surgery and verify that everything is in order and thus minimize risks of any kind during the surgical process, all this consulting your trusted veterinarian.
