I love your stories about animals and plants in South Africa. And the photos are excellent. The bird has a characteristic silhouette.

Back feathers are striped, very attractive bird.

Yes!

Cute little guys :)

Yeah, like the Pirates/Mafia of the bushveld, strong sharp claws, great pecking bill to rip/tear, red beady eye watching you, cute indeed! Their feathers are amazing.

So this is the Rainbird, nice photography & info @joanstewart!

Now you know what they look like I am sure you will see one soon enough @lizelle look for them on the ground near rivers.

Will look out for sure, we live close to a stream and get tons of birds in the garden. Have heard a beautiful new bird sound and want to find out what it is, I love birds but need to learn more about them, enjoyed your post :)

@joanstewart Never seen one but know their lore. A great post! Blessings!

We have had the joy of seeing them from the Toti River all the way up into St Lucia @papilloncharity thanks for visiting.

(Google translator used.)

Si es cierto muchas personas los mantienen en jaulas a mi me da mucha tristeza verlos así por que ellos deben ser libres.

NICE POST, NATIONAL BIRD OF MY COUNTRY (icterus icterus) @JOSELEONARDOJOSE KRYPTONIA ID

I honestly don't know a lot about birds, but it's always nice to learn. So thanks for sharing!

@kryptonia

Appreciate your visiting @maryresp

Nice photo's @joanstewart

I can't imagine he would hang around long for you to take the shot. That bill definitely looks like it could do some damage.

Gaz

Have found when on the floor they tend to disappear very quickly, perched like this they appeared not to bother having me around @cheese4ead

Perfect. Nice job.

oh I remember those birds, we used to have a lot in our garden. We always did everything to attract birds, but then we did not have cats either, which helps! (@claudiaz Kyptonia)

Children outside playing used to notice a lot more than adults appear to @positivexposure thanks for the visit.

Thank you for the information on this bird also very nice photos. Kryptonia @richard78624

Appreciate your comment and visit @richard78624

Joan, this is a very informative post with wonderful photos of the coucal.

Thank you so much for kind comment Roger, appreciated.

There is his local eagle bird. What it does is to still chickens from hens. Kryptonia ID @blogjeremiah

Wild birds and animals take a small number of our livestock, it is still well worthwhile not poisoning them and taking care to keep them around @blogjeremiah

Hermosas fotografías!! saludos desde Kryptonia ID Mariale

Aprecie sus amables palabras, gracias @mariale07

Good shots (specially the first one). Birds photography is one of the hardest parts of this office. Congrats!
My @kryptonia ID: Tupamalo.

Bird photography is fun, trying to be small and insignificant just to get a pic @tupamalo

Glad I now know what a Rain bird is,God created different kinds of birds and also most live in different countries like humans 😊

Birds live secretive lives, glad you enjoyed your visit @airsoftman

wow. lucky for you to capture those beautiful images.

Nice post upvoted from kryptonia @omobolaji

they are so cute. nicely captured.

Nice post it is so cute

Interesting features of this kind of birds. Aside from that, your photos speak of how adorable they are.

Strong features and determination makes them different @rubelynmacion

Many of the bird species in our side are endangered. Sparrow is rarely seen now.
@sumitsaurav5000 from kryptonia

Sad to hear about species battling to survive @sumitsaurav5000

Oh, it's so difficult to take photos of birds! You did a wonderful job! Thank you for sharing!

Appreciate your visit @delishtreats

you won't miss them being 40 cm long

wow this bird is very big! I have never seen it in person though.

Cheers.

Bird life is always on the move, always great when we do get to see them.

Not in look, but in description, this kind of reminds me of the roadrunner in the us.

I might be able to join you in bird photos soon. The birds of Malaysia are very striking and tame compared to what I saw in Bangkok. They will startle me by being right next to my face in a tree or next to my feet as I walk. And then some gigantic one flew by the balcony the other day. Once I settle in more I will get on my game!

I'm coming from your @kryptonia task - many thanks!

Look forward to seeing your animal photography in the region @fitinfun always such fun finding out what lives in our surroundings with us.
