I started watching an old (new for me) anime tonight called Berserk. I saw the anime on numerous lists for people favorite darker animes and decided to give it a try.
The anime follows a mercenary named Guts on his adventures with The Band of the Hawk mercenary group. Guts is a dark brooding mercenary who doesn't talk much but kicks lots of ass to make up for it. The story seems like it has potential with a few mysterious plot elements and a quick glimpse of Guts' future right as the anime begins.
I'm still on the fence about whether I like it or not. Sometimes it just doesn't feel like it's really going anywhere or half the anime is spent rehashing or slowly playing out events you know the outcome of already. There is enough pull to keep me going for now but even the big plot twists/reveals haven't been landing too hard for me so far. I've seen enough praise for the series that I feel like there is more to come in the future that will change my opinion. But so far I'd say berserk is pretty meh.
