"Dragon Ball Super: Broly" was one of the most anticipated movies when it comes to cinemas based on shounen-battle games. This is the most refined production from DB, in my opinion also the best (possibly the second, after "Path to Power") and one of the best in its genre. She suffers from several disadvantages, mainly due to exaggeration in a few technical aspects, but overall she is worthy of her attention. Not only because of the animation, but also a really solid plot. None of the movies based on Dragon Balls have been written so well. I will not talk about spoilers, I will try to describe some things as general as possible so that everyone can read it.
Let's start from the story side because it is surprisingly good and keeps the level of the best moments with DBS! The part of the movie that happens on Vegeta before it is destroyed is simply a masterpiece. I have absolutely no reason to stick to this segment. Not only that they drew the whole picture in a line characteristic of Zetka, they also tried to preserve the atmosphere straight from those times. It's so good that for a moment I felt like it's not been a long time since the end of the Z series. Although they have to some extent recited the events on Vegeta, there is no reason to worry - this is one of the better changes I've seen. It has nothing to do with idiotic retcons that modify events known to us in a meaningless way. On the contrary, the form of refreshing events slightly dusty by the time frame should be an example of how it should be done.
As for the characters, I don't have much to complain about here either. Vegeta's fight is a choreographic wonder, what's more - we haven't seen him since the events on Namek. He is determined, brutal, and his movements are full of elegance. Goku is closer to his version from Zetka than the one stupid from DBS. He is the same playboy as always (just like in the saga of Buu), but he finally remembered that there was time for fun and serious work. Bardock, Raditz, Paragas, or young Vegeta behave as if they were taken out of their original versions. Admittedly, their characters and personalities have been properly developed, but if you have seen cinema films with their participation or remember flashbacks from DBZ, you will easily notice similarities.
Our title hero is a little different. This version of the screamer is different from the one we knew about years ago. First of all, Broccoli ceased to be a bland figure and the creators provided him with something like character. His tantrums, in which he loses control over himself, are justified this time. He used to be traumatized by the constant crying of Song, and now he just bears him for various reasons. Although I have some concerns about his character, it is impossible to accuse him of something bad. It is true, it is too strong and may further widen the gap separating Saiyan from most of the universe, but it has been organically included in the brand so that I have no reason to complain. You can feel the majesty of power and pure power of destruction from him. Both on the changing environment and the faces of his opponents.
Fighting in Dragon Ball has never been so good. Everything is flawless, blows, and their strength are felt like never before. In general, animation and various CGI add-ons are almost perfect. Almost, because animators sometimes tried too hard when showing actions from different camera shots. In turn, one, about a minute, the sequence was overloaded with computer effects. And that's it when it comes to my accusations of brilliant fights. The fights are big, feel the scale of the duels, and the environment is miraculously destroyed by Broly's strength. Vegeta's clash with Brolym is a small wonder, a great show of superiority in fighting style to gargantuan power! The same sight full of contempt, quick and brutal smashing the enemy - something beautiful! Goku, in turn, was an excellent punching bag for the pissed off Saiyan. Literally, a sack, because Broly pounded his homie, like 2-meter Sebastian on steroids with a sack of potatoes. No matter how it sounds, I was pleased to watch Kakarotto temporarily lose consciousness by being hit by the back of the head against the ice. The final with Gogeta are the moments that most fans were waiting for. Please, Gogety or Vegerota has never been so powerful and satisfying! We got a few minutes of solid kill, which were presented at a sufficiently high level.
Continuing the topic of graphics and animation, apart from the disadvantages that I mentioned in the previous paragraph, I have nothing to add. The film looks surprisingly good (despite the fear of some fans, against the ubiquitous CGI), and the action rushes to break the neck so that these little things are less noticeable. The dynamics of moves or blows are equally fast, which further pleases the eye. Every move is clearly visible and the frames are made in detail. If you like anime movies filled with fast action and nice scenes, this is one of the more polished positions I've seen.
For now I am refraining because I am still not sure about it, but if I had to evaluate, I would give +8, -9/10. I recommend to watch especially those who did not like the Super series - "Dragon Ball Super: Broly", it looks almost exactly like the DBZ, which you loved so much.
