Daily Anime Pick #37 - Death Parade

in anime •  7 years ago

Today's pick in the Daily Anime Pick-Series where I pick one anime each day that I think is worth watching is Death Parade!

Death Parade is an anime that deals with what happens after death. In this case people that die arrive at a bar called Quindecim. Guests will be greeted by Decim, the bartender of Quindecim, who tells them that they have to participate in a game suggesting that refusal would not be in their interest. The purpose of this game is to judge the participants which will decide whether they will be reincarnated or thrown into the void. While there are many ways to judge humans usually the method is to push those humans into extreme conditions to draw out the darkness of their soul. Judgement then is passed according to their actions.

This anime will show you different people being judged each time but that does not mean that there is no story progressing. An unknown Black-Haired Woman who seems to be an unusual case is working as Decim's assistant. As the show progresses she will stir things up in this world between life and death.

Keep in mind that those extreme conditions will include some violence so don't expect this to be family friendly. Below I've linked the opening of the series which is quite a feast to watch.

Death Parade Opening

Description

After death, there is no heaven or hell, only a bar that stands between reincarnation and oblivion. There the attendant will, one after another, challenge pairs of the recently deceased to a random game in which their fate of either ascending into reincarnation or falling into the void will be wagered. Whether it's bowling, darts, air hockey, or anything in between, each person's true nature will be revealed in a ghastly parade of death and memories, dancing to the whims of the bar's master. Welcome to Quindecim, where Decim, arbiter of the afterlife, awaits!

Death Parade expands upon the original one-shot intended to train young animators. It follows yet more people receiving judgment—until a strange, black-haired guest causes Decim to begin questioning his own rulings.

Thank you very much! I am certainly not running out of animes to pick so there is plenty to come!

A shallow style over substance show, but a welcome one in a sea of annoying light novel adaptations. It's easy to watch, even if it's full of problems.

That is probably the most positive comment I've received from you so far! Let's see if someday I'll pick one anime that you consider great.

Sounds interesting added it to my watch list thanks.

The pleasure is mine!
