Konnichiwa! Maid-chan desu!

Do you know what a maid is? You probably do. But do you know what a dragon maid is? Maid-chan thinks you do not.

The same is true for Kobayashi-san, a female programmer working the typical life of a Japanese office worker (Maid-chan’s master is way better then other programmers and can choose his clients). Typical, that is, until the day Kobayashi opens her door to find a big dragon named Tohru there, saying she has come to be Kobayashi’s maid.

Kobayashi is shocked. That is not surprising, Maid-chan knows, since not many humans are aware that dragon exists. Humans are so strange! They have tons of legends and stories about dragons, but if they really see one, they are totally shocked.

And in Kobayashi’s case, she quickly makes the acquaintance of other dragons.
But of course dragons have not much experience in the human life, so there are a lot of surprises for them.
One of those, and the biggest disappointment for Tohru, is that Kobayashi-san just never, ever eats her tail. Tohru still tries again and again.

Ah, Maid-chan should add that Tohru’s tail grows again. Like really, really fast. So no problem even if it is eaten. Maid-chan does not understand why Kobayashi-san refuses to eat such high quality meat, that is even a regenerative resource. It would be understandable for those things Tohru has to go to the other world to get them.

Talking about regenerative resources, Maid-chan hopes that Kobayashi has regenerative electricity. Because Tohru is not the only dragon that ends up to live with her. There is also Kanna, a very young dragon and the cutest of them all.

But the bad air in the human world means that Kanna has problems with her magical energy, so she has to recharge using more conventional (for humans) means.

Ah, Maid-chan understands her very well! It is not easy to get good energy! It is strange that humans insist on burning old dinosaurs and make their air black instead of using cleaner energies.

As time goes on, even more dragons appear and for their own indisputable reasons decide to live in the human world for a while.

Maid-chan had fun watching the dragons get by (or not) in the strange human world. There are so many things that are hard to understand!

Voices and Graphic

All the voices are fitting their characters very well, Maid-chan thinks. The energetic Tohru, the shy but mind-strong Kanna...
Somehow they all convey the warmth inherent in this slice of life anime that shows that we all are very strange in some way. (Well, except of Maid-chan, of course, who is totally not strange.) There are conflicts, but in the end all is warm and comfy, just like a kotatsu.

Maid-chan thinks that, unfortunately, the real world is not as friendly. Which is a real shame. Do you think that humans could learn from this to be more respectful to each other? Maid-chan has her doubts, but her masters says that she should never give up hope.

As you can see in the pictures, the colors of the anime also convey the shining warmth that is the theme between Kobayashi and her dragon friends. Except at a few places the quality is high.

Summary

If you like maids, dragons or friendship, then you are not doing anything wrong with this anime. Despite Tohru’s understandable, nearly constant urge to burn all humans, you will not see bloodshed here. Maybe there will be some blood coming out of your nose though.

On the totally objective Maid-chan scale this anime is rated 9/10 for its interesting twist on the harem theme, the unique look on dragons and the sheer cuteness seeping out of every other scene. Kanna is a worthy opponent for Maid-chan in the cuteness business and only loses by a very small margin!

See you next time!
