Your Name
Your Name is a beautiful story that involves a guy and a girl waking up one day with their bodies switched. They go back to their own bodies the next day thinking it was just a weird dream, but everyone tells them how weird they were yesterday. Eventually, this switch happens again, and they realize something is up and attempt to meet each other in person. (This description doesn’t do justice to how good the movie actually is, but I don’t think that any description really could.)A silent voice
A Silent Voice starts out telling the
of a boy who is planning to commit suicide, but quickly jumps to the past to tell the story of how he ended up so depressed. A new girl moves to town and starts attending the elementary school of our main character. It turns out, that this girl is deaf, and that makes things hard for her. To make things worse, she is bullied pretty severely, and at the center of it all is our MC. He and his friends end up bullying her to the point that she drops out of school, and when confronted about it, all of his “friends” turn on him. He ends up becoming the one who is bullied by everyone and ends up feeling incredibly remorseful for his actions. He lives his life up to the point where the story began fueled by this regret. A little before the beginning of the story, we see our MC, now a quiet, kind of awkward person, run into the deaf girl from his childhood, and this sets a spark that will start an amazing story, and a beautiful romance.5 centimeters per second
Long distance relationship are complicated I have never been in one myself but I can imagine feels being so far away from your loved one for such a long period of time at time you struggle to make it work but most of the time circumstances seem to tear you apart and make it seem like you just were not meant to be together wow I just painted a pretty pessimistic picture there didn't I that's exactly the core premise of the film five centimeters per second the movie tells the story of two childhood friends who tried to make their relationship going through life's changes we are treated to seeing their relationship develop despite being turn away from each other in a drama that examines the harsh realities of having a long distance relationship it's a slow melodrama in the literal sense of the word and the movie really has its way with pulling the heartstrings I really like how love and relationship get portrayed in this film and at first I didn't expect that I'd feel emotions along these with characters that I have only known for a little over an hour or two as with any shinkai led product the animation and the background art are just outstanding and another things to watch for movie for by themselves.Slice of Life
“Slice of Life” is similar to the genre called Drama, but at the same time, it emphasizes the “life” aspect that makes Slice of Life stories relatable to the viewer, such as ups and downs in life, a person’s struggle or success/failure stories. What makes “slice of life” relatable is the sense of what is ‘natural’ and commonly experienced by usually the average person through life experience. And, if you do not share an experience, the new experience you gain in a Slice of Life title, will become a part of you, and no longer feel ‘new’ or foreign.
I personally would argue K-On is and has the genre called “Slice of Life”. You are with the characters from start to finish in their character growth from Year 1 to year 2 in high school (Season 1) and Year 3 (Season 2). You witness the ordinary and sometimes hilarious moments of very unique or attractive lovable characters.
Essentially what makes an anime have “slice of life”, is simply “Life Events” as well as carrying the element of realism. And in reality, you may think your life or a ‘typical’ person’s everyday life as rather uneventful, average, or ordinary. But it is within these specific days portrayed in Anime where you can enjoy watching and appreciate the simple and provincial. And sometimes, there are rare thin slices of an episode that may be as thin as camera film, or intense or explosive moments, where an everyday ordinary ‘life’ show, encounters a small to large change, when suddenly the scene before your very eyes, propels the story and characters into motion. The gears turn. The clock hands spin and yet time has stopped and doesn’t move. The roller coaster spins and nosedives. The story has changed, and you thirst for more.
- Spice and wolf
People who watched Spice and wolf might be a bit confused as to why it’s on a sad anime list. Well I’ll go over it soon. Spice and Wolf is show that misled me into getting intrigued and excited about medieval trading and economics despite posing a facade of an adorable romance story. It follows the journey of travelling merchant Lawrence and an immortal pagan wolf goddess Holo(#Bestgirl) as they travel from town to town towards to a vague destination. We see their relationship blossom through their travels and we see Holo’s reluctance while getting attached with Lawrence, This my dear reader is the reason why this makes it on my list. Holo’s immortality is a common theme that frequently gets brought up throughout the show (S2) primarily. She is scared of getting too attached with Lawrence as she knows his mortality would only lead to her own sorrow. For as much as she overcomes this in the ending and light novel sequels that fear of his impending death would always be a shadow even in the times she has fun messing around with Lawrence.
This thought still lingered in the recesses of my mind for months after watching it.
The Girl Who Leapt through Time
Maaannn, this movie is mind blowing! I love it so much! It is just as the title says, the movie is about a girl who leapt through time, how? Lol, for some reason she does it by running and then falling. She uses this power(?) she has for now for good causes like helping out a friend to confess and for silly reasons to like going back a few minute to eat the pudding her sibling(i think) ate in the future! At the end, oh my gosh, the ending is just sad and emotionally and I couldn't stop crying!
- I want to eat your pancreas
Despite its creepy name, I can assure you there’s no cannibalism involved in this anime. I want to eat your pancreas is a sad story between two high school students. The male lead finds a book titled “Living with Dying” which belongs to Sakura, now Sakura is diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and doesn’t have much time left to live. After that meeting, the pair begin to spend the girls remaining time together. The protagonist of this series is antisocial and doesn’t have any friends, which is the opposite of Sakura, who’s popular and cheerful. We see the protagonists growth and how Sakura helps him become a better person throughout the story. This is more of a drama than a romance like a silent voice but it’s definitely an anime everyone should check out because of its beautiful portrayal of a unique and special relationship between two people.
7.HOTARUBI NO MORI E
This movie is just so SAD, the ending omg i couldn't stop crying! It is about a young girl who is staying at her grandpa's house for the summer holiday. One day she went to a forest and got lost. A man in a mask came to help her and after crying so much the girl ran toward him for a hug, but only got a hit on the head with a wooden stick in return! Why? Ho ho, then you better go watch it. Every summer holiday, she always come to her grandpa's place so she could visit him. Their relationship is like, you know how people say, "so close yet so far", yea. Watch and you'll understand.
- Anohana: The Flower We Saw that Day
It’s a story about a group of friends dealing with the loss of a loved one. Each episode reveals how each of the friends blame themselves individually for the incident that took away their friend Menma’s life. I would classify it as a romance drama because of the intricate love triangles (I am not sure if that’s an apt way to say it though) unfold as we move along the story but they are more like secondary plotlines, the main being all of the friends coming together to recall and fulfil Menma’s last wish and set her soul free. The last episode personally had me crying out of my ears and nose.
- Planetarian
Planetarian is not like most of the anime. Most of them have many characters and take place in city where there are many people. Planetarian has only two characters and it takes place in an abandoned city. So it seems that there are only hero and heroine in the world, which makes audiences have strange feelings. The time of this anime is also short, only 2 hours. It tells a short but beautiful story. A scavenger entered a planetarium and encountered its custodian robot, Yumemi, and the story starts there.
The story of Planetarian is very impressive. I, being like the hero, first thought Yumemi was chatty and annoying and thought the story was boring. But as the story went on, I gradually immersed into it. Finally I only felt sad and took pity on Yumemi. Her wish is only to serve human and bring the starry sky to the people, but the world is too cruel to let it come true. Her awkward behaviors only add to the sadness of the story.
I think there are at least three themes of Planetarian. First, it tells us that we should pay some attention to spiritual wealth. We are always busy in the temporal work and forget the beauty of the starry sky, so this anime lets us recall it. Second, it tells us that we humans should not begin a war, for it has showed the terrible world after a war. Finally, it eulogizes ”the people who tells stars” like Yumemi. The world in the anime symbolizes the world we are living in now, for our world also has many problems and dark sides. In the bad environment some people corrupt themselves, like the robot weapon. But others still strive to spread beautiful things and thoughts, like Yumemi. It is the existence of them that gives us courage to strive in bad environment, and see the light in the darkness.
To end up, I think the most important value of Planetarian is to purify our heart. We may be impressed by the goodness and perseverance of Yumemi, and live a better life in the following days. “When you are caught in the darkness and are not able to see the real starry sky, please recall the scene you see now. It is my little wish.” It is a beautiful wish of Yumemi, isn’t it? Nothing else is important then.
