Expect the unexpected! With no sign of season 2 coming up YET, we may see an announcement soon following the screening of No Game No Life: Zero going on this week in North America.

If you are going, buy your ticket now!

I got the opportunity to see it in theaters last night in its subtitled glory, it will still be available for one more screening this Sunday. Being a decent NGNL fan, I felt the movie did it justice, the amazing animation, music, and story plot is clearly evident throughout the movie, and when it's not making you cry, you are in for a lot of laughter, and callbacks to the series.

We got to the one theater on Oahu showing it, about an hour before the start time. There were still many people trying to buy tickets from the cashiers, and ticket kiosks, but this screening was already sold out. Saw a bunch of people pretty bummed out, as this is definitely No Ticket, No Movie.

If you are planning to watch the October 8th screening, I recommend you buy your ticket NOW!! It will most likely be sold out on the day of, always better to be safe than sorry. A few months ago, we attended a special screening of Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away and still bought tickets in advance, as it sold out.

You need to expect that actual premiers will sell out faster. We were able to snag a couple of tickets in advance, and the fun thing about Anime screenings in Hawai'i is that everyone is always shouting hilarious stuff into the crowd until the movie starts. You can tell that everyone in attendance is a fan!

I was excited, and went to hold seats beforehand so our entire group of 5 could sit together. Don't think that there will be seats left, there were people standing to watch this movie!

Story Premise

6000 years before the No Game No Life series with Sora and Shiro actually take place, Tet tells the story of the Great War, and what the world was like before the outcome of games decided everything. If you want to know why things are the way they are, there is a ton of lore in this movie. It's extremely difficult to say anything without giving anything away. You'll be happy with what they decided to do with this movie.

What's up for speculation is that because this movie takes place sort of as a prequel to the series, and not continuing where we left off at episode 12, fans are hoping that NGNL will be continuing at a season two on a later date. There is nothing confirmed yet, as this is all rumor, but if NGNL: Zero does well at the box office, we might be seeing everyone come back in the future!

Shuvi

One of the main characters of the film, Shuvi- is an android from the Ex Machina race and excommunicates herself to search for the meaning of the heart. She regards humans as weak, but it's this mysterious heart that allows them to survive anything. I was not liking this character until hilarity ensued, although a different character and much more calculating, the resemblance to Shiro is undeniably there. You will fall in love with her.

Riku

Our glorious human leader. You see, humans being the weakest race, find themselves hiding underground during the great war, and all Riku wants now, is the war to end. After befriending Shuvi, they begin working towards it. In the beginning of the film it is difficult to see Sora's character resemblance (other than looks), Riku is a much more serious character, but that doesn't mean that he can't bring the jokes. You will die of gut busting laughter if you like the jokes from NGNL.

What I can say

Is that Madhouse brought the fire with this movie, as everything is exactly as it is in the series- it stays 100% true to what we've come to know. There will a bunch of jokes that make more sense if you've seen the series, but even if you haven't, you'll appreciate the humor.

I cried three different times over the course of this film. The story is a lot darker than what we've come to expect from NGNL, but it fits perfectly into place. If I could compare this movie to anything, it reminds me of the Tenchi Muyo series, and different versions of the arc, although there is only one timeline and this story takes place far before it. You may be able to tell why after you watch it, but this without a shadow of a doubt reminds me of Speed Racer.

Saying anything else would be a spoiler! Hope you get to watch it this Sunday!
