Horror and Struggle

In honor of my recent Ah I want to die episode, I bring you my Abyssal Anime recommendations... thing is, I've never liked 'plain' horror. Horror where the characters accept their doom and fail to fight back makes me feel nothing... save disgust and pity maybe? This is kind of how I feel about Aryan civilization at this point- also applies to my life personally; self-hate is a bitch. Horror and the reaction of mortal struggle, however, drags me into the depths of powerful whirling emotion. The torment of regret, the maelstrom of unending suffering, and tears of blood. The vow and will to power. The triumph upon surmounting impossible odds, or the embrace of horrific and glorious death in battle. Embrace and transcend the pain; liberation from fear.

In all honestly, this could have been added in my post about traps. The whole show is a trap. Literally and metaphorically, in more ways than two. This is not for children, if you show this to someone who hasn't already seen the world, they will probably remember it for life. Mandatory viewing for adults. There are few other Anime that hold scenes that elicit such dark emotions in me...

Most would say that the remake is a vast improvement. I would agree, if we are talking strictly about the production values, and even the completeness of the story... but when it comes to raw emotion and ambiance, the original trumps the remake. Maybe this is just my nostalgia speaking, but that one scene. That was the first time I felt such raw emotion, and blood-lust... from something in fiction.
