(Spoilers follow.)
Help us, arthropod, you’re our only hope?
An audience member yelled out in disappointment that she only saw an ant playing the drums for the post-credits scene of “Ant-Man and the Wasp.”
But oh, how it may mean more than that.
The ant’s position followed the revelation in the mid-credits scene that Scott Lang/Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) is stuck in the Quantum Realm. So, unable to be in the real world, where Thanos has taken over, having snapped half of the entire universe out of existence.
Ant-Man in the Quantum Realm
That’s made very clear in the same scene where Scott gets trapped, as Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer), Hope Pym/the Wasp (Evangeline Lilly) and Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) all have been killed due to Thanos’ evil act. (Right when so many of us thought that the scene, if not the film, would point to hope in the wake of the murders!)
As is made clear during the film, the ant had been programmed to follow Scott’s routine. That was in an effort to enable Scott to be out in society during hero stuff when he is expected to be on house arrest.
So the ant has been designed to be connected to Scott.
This opens up a larger possibility than the following.
At the least, however, this means that the Avengers who survived Thanos’ purge can reach Scott through the ant.
And this is probable given that we already know that Scott will be in “Avengers 4” due to leaked footage. (How upset Marvel must be at that.)
There’s reason to believe that Scott is going to play a big role in saving the Avengers and all of the other living beings in the universe who perished at Thanos’ hand, according to The Inquisitr. Now, we can see how even though Scott is trapped, there’s a medium to enable his escape.
If there would be a score written for that scene, perhaps it could be “Phone the insect.”
