Antarctica is losing its sea ice buffer

In addition to the land ice sheets found on Antarctica, the continent is also surrounded by sea ice that helps hold back the land ice from migrating to the sea. This sea ice is melting which will allow for faster movement of the land ice into the sea where currents will carry it to warmer waters, the land ice will melt and contribute to rising sea levels.
