Antelope Canyon, USA

in antelope •  5 years ago

The Antelope Canyon in Arizona, USA was formed by the erosion of sandstone layers.

As a result of the overflow of running water due to the heavy rains, the rapidly flowing water passes through the sandstone layers and adds rock pieces, sand and many other materials to its structure.

This erodes the rock layers in places where the water passes, just like sandpaper.

Eventually, the gaps between the rocks expand over time and natural corridors form, as shown in the photo. The name of the canyon comes from forked horned antelopes that once grazed in that area.
