I am pro-choice, which means I support a woman to take it as an option to have an abortion or not, and I support the fact that abortion has to be legalized.
I am also an antinatalist, which means I don’t support giving birth to more humans into this planet.
I am pro-choice for a number of reasons…mainly it has to do with my feminist side, but I will get to that later. I am totally against the government making up laws to ban safe and professional abortions from being done. They have no right to interfere with someone else’s life. Us women, our bodies are not being owned by the government, or anyone else, for that matter. People will always get an abortion if they need one, safe or not. It’s just that banning it will not stop it from being done, in fact, getting abortions banned actually usually result in serious injury and even death.
1) The main reason why I endorse pro-choice activity and awareness is because most of the people are actually not ready to have a child. They are not even responsible enough yet, and they think that getting pregnant and being a parent is just another house chore. They end up failing to raise the child, and the child ends up being a criminal of some sorts, or might even develop some psychological disorders (take my case, for instance).
2) Many parents-to-be are suffering from a financial crises or basically, lack of money. How do you expect to raise a child properly when you can’t even feed or educate yourself?
3) Being a parent will definitely interfere with education or career plans. It’s most definitely going to happen, and I see it occur everyday with parents I know. They’ve wasted a lot of time and lost their lives basically because they gave birth to a couple of kids. Be it finishing a master’s degree, extra courses, or any dream job…sorry to break it to you, but it’s not going to happen – not that easily, anyway, you’re dealing with the biggest type of hindrance.
4) Maturity. Most people here get married at a very young age, it’s so disappointing to see them fail to raise their child, a child they chose to have but are still too irresponsible to handle the consequences.
5) I just cannot grasp the idea of being a single mother. To be a parent, you have to sacrifice. Basically it’s why two people are involved, because the sacrifice is just too much for one person. You have to end up spending money, time, and effort just to raise a child.
6) What if you have been raped and got pregnant? Sad, isn’t it? You will have a choice to abort the fetus or to go ahead and let them suffer a life they shouldn’t have in the first place. They will grow up knowing they were a mistake. It’s just horrendous. This point shouldn’t even be debatable.
7) Ever thought of your future baby and the mental/physical difficulties they could have? They could be handicapped, retarded, missing some limbs or organs, or even be so sick from a syndrome that will kill them within days. Who said your future baby will be perfectly created? I know there are ultrasound scans and such, but these will not show every single detail. And if they were physically fine, who said they will have a perfect life? Even if, are you ready and dedicated enough to care for your baby when it is deformed or not well?
8) Almost everyone I know nowadays are smokers. They smoke up, do drugs, and who knows what else. Ever thought that even passive smoking is going to cause a defect for the fetus? It’s going to make them lack oxygen and they will end up looking so tiny, it’s obvious in anyone’s eyes that there is something wrong with their physical build – and it’s all the mother’s fault. I wouldn’t ever want to know anyone who is pregnant and does drugs or smokes – this should be illegal.
9) It was mentioned in a few holy books (this part is for you if you are against abortion because of religion) that it is not wrong to have an abortion as long as it has taken place within the first trimester – because after that time, it’s when the “soul” has been set inside the fetus’s body. In some versions of the Bible, it has been mentioned that a human is actually with a soul from after the first month of pregnancy. I am not making this up – search for it yourself, and I have read the 3 holy books before anyway (I am not a follower of any religion however)…either way, abortion has not been mentioned clearly in the holy books. Some parts are against abortion after one month of pregnancy, and some others are actually…promoting it. You got it – those sinners who have been engaging in sexual intercourse without marriage. The mother and unborn child are being killed. And according to some Jews, the unborn child is not a human being until it takes its very first breath. Again, I’m not making anything up – this is all what I read before and how I perceived it. Plus, if it was really mentioned in the holy books, why are there plenty of people out there that are disagreeing over the fact that it is not distinctly mentioned?
10) ABORTION IS NOT MURDER! Murder is killing of a being with a soul…but what soul is there from a bunch of forming cells that is still not fully formed?
11) BONUS: If it’s your dream to have a child – go ahead and do it. Just add more humans onto this planet that clearly can’t handle its overpopulation. Obviously it’s a very common – yet selfish – trait in many people who are in love – they just want to make babies. Like we need any more problems because of your happily-ever-after perspective. If you really wanted a child, why don’t you opt for adoption?! By doing that good deed, you will actually be helping an orphan as well as not contributing to overpopulation (amongst other reasons). But remember what was said, as this info above was taken from online surveys, researches, and a bunch of common sense. To be a parent, you will have to sacrifice time, money, and effort – tons of it.
Never allow anyone to dictate the rest of your life for you that can most probably ruin it and cause you to go through a massive sabotage. Obviously many people regret having children (but are strongly in denial). Yet barely anyone regrets NOT having children – also since that isn’t as permanent a decision. In the end, it is your choice, and you should clearly know the consequences that come with permanent life changes that will affect you, and others as well.
Your body, your rules.
End of story.
