Ant Keeping

Ant Keeping - it is a hobby in taking care and observing ants. I mainly keep them as pets at home. I live in a small condo unit and housing a dog or cat has been a challenge since I also have a 2 year old boy with me. Rather than having a large cage or kennel in the house, I just have 1/4 of my dining table as my colonies needs only a small space for now. :)

I have started keeping ants last August of 2017. I currently have 4 colonies of different ant species.

1. Camponotus nicobarenis - a carpenter ant species
2. Pheidole megacephala - commonly known as big headed ants
3. Anoplolepis gracilipes - yellow crazy ant
4. Camponotus sp - red/brown carpenter ant

I mainly feed them honey and roaming small roaches at home. Sometimes I buy them crickets from the petstore just for variety in their diet.

I can watch them for hours. It helps me relax from the stress at work.
