Anxiety remedies that work part 1: Lavendel

in anxiety-cures •  6 years ago  (edited)

Lavendel is a natural remedy for anxiety, not the strongest alternative, but it does work. Lavender or Lavandula angustifolia, is native to the old-world and belongs to the mint family.

Lavendel contains terpenes including camphor, this brings a sharp overtone to the fragrance. The oil from lavender include the substances caryophyllene (8%) linalool (26%).

And by the way I am doing this series because I freakin hate anxiety!

And I want us to beat the crap out of anxiety together!

I sometimes use the oil for aromatherapy. I also have one of these "neck pillows" filled with rice and lavendel that you heat up in the microwave and put around your neck, it works wonders for tension and stress, and it reduces anxiety for sure. Women can also use it on the belly when having cramps/PMS, (if you are a guy, I suggest you get one of these pillows for your girlfriend/wife/mother/sister)...

Lavender essential oil, is what you need to get a hold of, but make sure it's the natural kind, (there are some cheap knock-off products that will make people have bad reactions so be careful).

You have to use Lavender essential oil with some water in an aromatherapy "diffuser" or "lamp" or you know one of these "burners" with a little candle under it.

There is some scientific evidence that this oil or aromatherapy with lavender may have the ability to slow down the nervous system, helping a person relax and sleep better.

You can have a lavendel plant growing in your window, you can make tea from it, use it for massages, put it in your bath-tub. According to sources it helps keeping that declining hairline from declining...

So if you're a bit anxious like me, do yourself a favour, put on a hat and some "rock star shades" and go down to your local health-store, and score some lavendel-oil, and a "burner" and just go home and chillax...

This anxiety cure, gets two stars out of five possible:

And remember too much of a good thing is not always good, make sure you are not allergic, also avoid using lavendel products on young children.

We keep a lavender plant in our bedroom and living room for this exact reason 😉
Its great that u are sharing this because more people should try natural cures and get away from those harmful chemicals we call "medicine"!

Oh thats so cool @moderndayhippie!
I am going to buy a whole bunch of lavender-plants and keep in my bedroom window, not sure how long they last indoors, but it probably will smell really nice for a while, and help with the vibrations. Did your lavender plant last for long indoors? Or sorry is it still going strong, with flowers and all?

Yeah, they do pretty well inside as long as they are in a window that gets a decent amount of sun light daily. 🤓✌

Thats good to hear, I have a little sun a few hours in the morning...

So glad I found this blog! I suffer from extreme anxiety, the PTSD kind. so sick of all the drugs. Hopefully, I find something that works. Following. Thanks for sharing!

@balticbadger
Yeah I totally feel you, not cool to have chronic anxiety problems, and it is often frowned upon by the uneducated public and even some medical doctors, like a weakness, that you can just remove if you just "man up" or something...

Well, don't worry plenty of more "anxiety remedies" coming up my friend!!!!
This is just the beginning!!!

Cheers!

Yeah, ain't that the truth! I have seen the most powerful mems lives destroyed by anxiety. Nothing to be ashamed of. But part of my anxiety is people learning about my anxiety! Ugh! I can't wait to read more. How did you learn about this? And it's funny I, have always loved lavender plants!

Well I learned about it because I lived with this dude who had serious issues with anxiety, and he was using it and it helped him, (and he was pretty messed up from time to time), so I tried the whole lavendel-oil aromatherapy thing and it definitely gave a more "peaceful vibe" to the room, and put my thoughts in nice calm places! Now I use it all the time, I also use lotus-oil for aroma therapy, it gives a similar effect.

Cheers and thanks for following!

I love lavender ALOT - I use it every night to help me sleep. The smell instantly makes me calmer.

Hello @riverflows nice to "see" you in these parts!!!
Yeah its not a bad smell, the dried flowers reminds me of my grandmother, she used it in potpourris...
I am going to get some plants for my window I think...

Lets see what herb/supplement I will write about next... Thanks for your comment it is appreciated!

I also put drops of Lavender essential oil in my shampoo. It helps my sensitive scalp, and it's relaxing to smell. I have a mix of essential oils that I can put on the soles of my feet before bed to help let go of thoughts, worries and just relax. It has a few oils in it, Lavender being one of them.

I like to use Lavender also when I have head aches, and I also use Wintergreen essential oil.

Great post btw ;)

Thanks @binkyprod, I just got som dried Lavender flowers from the shop, not sure if I should make tea from them or use them in some other way... Maybe use them with some shower gel/shampoo as a kind of "body-scrub"? It would be cool to make soap and put some of those flowers inside.

/FF

Oh, that WOULD be cool. I've never used actual Lavender flowers before, only the essential oil. I have a little bag of paupouris though.

I might just stuff them in a small pillow/bag and keep next to my head in bed, I think I remember my grandmother doing something like that... =)

/FF

That could work.

I tried drinking it in tea-form, but to be honest it is very overpowering, the taste...
I think a "smelly-bag" is the way to go, maybe I'll make a small lavendel teddy-bear for my inner child or something crazy like that... =)

/FF

Aw that sounds like such a fun project. You will have to share your Lavender Teddy if you do make one.

Okay! I promise to share it...
