God calls us with love: I will heal their apostasy; I will love them freely, for my anger has turned from them

The prophet Hosea preaches in the Kingdom of Israel before its destruction by the Assyrians, at the time of the reign of King Jeroboam of Israel and Hezekiah king of Judah. The happy and glorious times of David and his son Solomon had fallen into oblivion, and everything was violence, robbery, and lies.
Because of the prevailing corruption in the kingdom, the prophet compares his people in his oracles to an adulterous woman who has broken her pact with God because of her sins; so much so, that God commands the prophet to take a prostitute as a wife at the beginning of his book, Israel, the promise made to Abraham, had forgotten their God: "Though you, Israel, commit adultery, do not let Judah become guilty" Hosea 4:15.
One of the causes of the situation was the failure of the spiritual leadership of the priestly caste: "Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests: because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children" Hosea 4:6.
The prophet in his oracles explains to us that the pact between God and his people is like a marriage and that God is faithful and does not break his bond of love, that is why the people must return from their sins. History constantly repeats itself, like Jesus, Hosea speaks to us of redemption through love, of that love that is a grace, that is a free gift, God calls us. As in the times of the prophets, today it is up to us to accept that good love (Agape) that God wants to give us; as it happened to the chosen people during the invasion of Assyria, our mistakes also have a retribution.
Thus, in the face of God's loving forgiveness, Hosea promises the restoration of the pact with the creator:
"I will heal their apostasy;
I will love them freely,
for my anger has turned from them.
I will be like the dew to Israel;
he will blossom like a lily.
Like a cedar of Lebanon
he will send down his roots;
his young shoots will grow.
His splendor will be like an olive tree,
his fragrance like a cedar of Lebanon
People will dwell again in his shade;
they will flourish like the grain,
they will blossom like the vine—
Israel´s fame will be like the wine of Lebanon" Hosea 14:4-7.
