We recently took a trip to Tennessee with the hopes of finding the Appalachian Trail, we did. The first part of the path we found was iced over and we decided it wasn't safe, left us pretty bummed. We decided to drive on down the Newfound gap rd. into North Carolina. There we met a gentleman that informed us that we could park at clingmans dome rd. and walk up as it is closed this time of year to vehicles and it is part of the AT. The drive on Newfound gap rd. is beautiful so we headed back towards Tennessee. We arrived at our destination and parked. We walked up the rd. about 1.5 and seen what we recognized as a thru hiker which we didn't get to speak with but he lead us to a part of the South bound trail that lead into the mounatin side forest, we were thrilled. It was truly a memorable day as we hike a 5k on the famous AT. We are going to set out to hike 5k's all over the country the latter part of 2018 and I cannot wait to get started.
