Grape leaves remind me of sushi

Wrapped around rice instead of seaweed, the Mediterranean take on arrid, survival food shows what the Roman empire learned about surviving in the desert.

When your natural irrigation is limited (GCBI), wrap your food in leaves. Figs allow you to survive the heat also. Greeks may call it something different, but just like we don't call Italians Romans anymore, that's just semantics.

Food wrapped in leaves could save your life. The appearance of the leaves look like collard greens from the American south. But don't look for that pot liquor, vinegar, mustard green taste. Writing from below the Mason Dixon line, you may be disappointed. But grape leaves don't have a fishy, seaweed taste either.
