It's true. I have noticed the same with many films. You have have the knowledge that you have seen the film but all detail is gone once you start watching. There are some key moment's you do remember of course.

That's my fave moment in the trilogy. That armour donning scene with Theodin (sxuse spelling).
I loved reading that when I was a kid and as a 30 something I was delighted to find that the films did it justice (IMO) and massively reduced the last seven 'going home' chapters which as an 11 yr old reader I still remember as tedious....

I think I would mostly remember everything from the first movie because that is the one that was out when I had a lot of time to sit around and channel surf. It seems like it was on every weekend. The movies were great, I am glad I read the books too though!
