A generator for Russian nuclear power plants

in appics •  5 years ago  (edited)

I am doing a story about a Croatian company called Adriadiesel, former Yugoturbina. They are producing generators for the post Soviet countries. When the Chernobyl explosion took place, the only generators which continued to work were the ones from Yugoturbina. They finally stopped working because of the lack of fuel after a few days.

This generator is being used in the Smolensk power plant. After 42 years it's time to fix it up and then it goes back with an Antonov plane.

wow thats super interesting, well no one said the engineering on these machines weren't top notch, it was all due to human error and cost cutting. The people who build those things really knew what they were doing

This company is one out of 7 or 8 in the entire world which produce these parts. They can last for decades
