According to Mark Gurman's Power On newsletter, Apple has apparently hired Meta's AR public relations head Andrea Schubert, as reports regarding an augmented reality headset continue to swirl. "As Apple nears its debut, Meta, with Oculus, has been the market leader in headsets, so such a hire makes sense," Gurman wrote.
According to her LinkedIn page, Schubert has been Communications Director for Meta's Reality labs and Comms Lead for Oculus with Meta since March 2016. She was previously the director of OutCast, a public relations firm that has Facebook and Oculus as customers.
Apple's prospective AR headset has sparked a slew of reports, some of which are contradictory. According to one current theory, the headgear may be dependent on another device, such as an iPhone or a Mac computer.
According to another report from The Information, it will be a standalone gadget with dual 8K monitors that might cost up to $3,000. And, according to a third rumor, it will play "high-quality VR games," according to Gurman. Apple may follow up the VR headset with AR-only glasses, according to Gurman, but that would be "years down the road."
However, most reports concur that the headset will be released in 2022 or 2023. If that's the case, Apple will need to launch a massive public awareness campaign to explain what it is and how it will work. The fact that the startup apparently hired the PR head from Meta, the current virtual and augmented reality market leader, could indicate that the product is on track so far.
