Amy Wang, writing for RollingStone tells us about Apple’s plans for iTunes, their iconic media app. And that plan is… it’s going away. But like Ma Bell, it’s not really going away, just being split up.
[T]]he tech giant is set to replace iTunes with standalone music, television and podcast apps.
This should be relatively painless. eBooks were once a part of iTunes and they were rolled into their own app a few years ago; upon opening the new iBooks app it automatically sucked up all ebooks from iTunes. Presumably moving all our media to the new apps will be handled in a similar fashion, and hopefully just as painlessly as that move was.
iTunes is a bloated mess, weighed down by by so many legacy features that the app is rarely speedy even on new machines. Whenever I open it on my MacBook, CPU activity instantly shoots up to 100% and the laptop fans come on. Moving to more focused, lighter apps is a great move and one that is long overdue.

Thank goodness, I have spent countless hours trying to “fix” my iTunes account! The programming on iTunes has always had problems!!
