iPhone X: What to Expect

We're just a month away from the official release date of Apple's newest and greatest, the iPhone X (pronounced iPhone 10). With all these new features, such as wireless charging and a 5.8 inch display, to name a few, you're gonna have to expect a high price point. Let's go over what we know about Apple's newest creation.

As rumored months prior, the new iPhone will have a stunningly large 5.8" display, the largest display on any iPhone before. Well, almost 5.8". As you can see from the picture above, there will be a rectangular notch located at the top of screen, officially called the sensor housing. This is going to block some of your content on the display, and it's going to take a bit for app developers to work around this notch. Because of this, you're going to see some black bars on your display when launching into some apps in the first few days, so make sure you update your apps whenever updates are available. This will especially be a bother in landscape mode, and even more so if you enjoy playing games on your phone. But not to worry, like I said above, the app developers will find a way around this. Although this sensor housing is gonna be pretty annoying at first, it has some useful stuff in it.

There will be a 7 MP front-facing camera within the sensor bar, so nothing new from Apple's previous devices. However, portrait mode will now be integrated in this camera, so it will no longer be specially available on the front-facing camera like the iPhone 7 Plus. And not to mention, one of the biggest features of the iPhone X is in this tiny sensor bar, the Face ID scanner. All new iPhone X models will support Face ID to unlock your phone, replacing Touch ID, as Apple has used for years ever since the iPhone 5s.

Face ID will also be supporting Apple Pay, so it's not only needed for unlocking your phone. You may be thinking that you can bypass this with just a simple photograph of the phone owner, but that isn't going to be the case here. The sensor that's used to scan faces is a 3D detecting camera, so it will measure the actual dimensions of the face, and not just the content, meaning just a photograph won't do. The new 3D camera won't just be used for Face ID though, it's also going to be used for iOS 11's iPhone X exclusive new emojis, Animojis. These are special emojis which can be animated by your very own face, exclusive to iMessage. Currently, only 12 emojis are included in this new feature, such as the unicorn emoji, fox emoji, and alien emoji, to name a few (a full list will be located at the bottom of the article).

Apple is also ditching the aluminum body for their new iPhone, and will be replacing it with glass, similar to the iPhone 4 and 4s' build. They claim to be using one of the world's strongest glasses, and will be 4x more shatter resistant than any normal glass. There's also some reasoning behind this switch of material. To compensate for the iPhone X's new wireless charging feature, Apple was forced to get rid of the aluminum body and switch over to glass. But, you know how Apple is. They're going to be charging extra for the wireless charging pad, and sadly, it won't be included in the box. However, you can ditch Apple's pricey $50 charging pad and purchase any Qi Wireless Charging Pad for around $10-$15. A regular Lightning cable will still be coming in the box, so you don't have to worry about making extra purchases just to charge your smartphone.

Now, let's talk about the price. Apple is known for their high-end products, which as a result, come with some premium prices. The iPhone X will come in two storage models, a 64GB model, and a 256GB model. This year, they'll be skipping the 32GB and 128GB options. The 64GB model will be starting at $999 and the 256GB model will be starting at $1149. Along with these two storage options, they'll also only be coming in two colors, Space Gray and Silver. Yup, Apple is bringing back Space Gray after supposedly getting rid of it with last years iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. That also means they're getting rid of Rose Gold and Gold. Unlike the iPhone 8 which came in a shiny new gold color, combining rose gold and gold, the iPhone X will only be coming in two dull colors, just like the iPhone 4s and below. It seems the iPhone 4 and iPhone X have a lot more in common than you'd think.

To wrap up this article, here's a quick list of most of the new features the iPhone X will be supprting.

• Wireless charging
• Face ID
• 7MP front-facing camera and dual 12MP rear-facing cameras
