The Japanese website Macotakara has learned through its informant that Apple will start selling the wireless air mat next month
Apple had already announced Airpower in September 2017. The oval white charging mat with Qi-capable induction technology should allow multiple devices to be charged at the same time, which are placed on the loading area. So far, however, the Qi standard does not exist. Therefore, Apple wants to expand the standard together with the Qi consortium. The waiver of a proprietary solution would of course also have the advantage that other manufacturers could also build such charge mats.
The Airpower charging mat will charge the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus or iPhone X wirelessly with the Apple Watch Series 3. In addition, there will soon be a new Airpods housing, which can also be placed on the mat and charged. The housing should be offered separately from the Airpods themselves and would also allow retrofitting.
