It's that time of year again. Apple is gearing up for its biggest annual event where it unveils its highly anticipated new iPhone lineup along with the official launch of new versions of iOS, macOS and updates to other software platforms.

Rumours about what new iPhones could look like, what specifications they might have, pricing and other related things start cropping up as soon as a year before the actual launch and this year was no different.

For months, it has been rumoured that this years iPhones will feature an incremental update, so if you were expecting something 'revolutionary' you will probably be disappointed.

This year's iPhones will be the third iteration of the design language that Apple had started with the iPhone X back in 2017. In 2018, we got the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and a slightly more affordable version called the iPhone XR.

Consumers were expecting that this year, Apple will launch the iPhone 11 series which could feature a ton of upgrades seeing how the previous year was an incremental update as well. But it seems like they will probably have to wait for next year's launch.

So, What's New?

First of all, Apple is rumoured to name the lineup iPhone 11 with the larger screen size iPhone could get the 'Pro' moniker just like iPads and MacBooks. That would mean that this year's lineup will consist of the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11R (if they decide to offer an affordable version).

Also, the new iPhones will be more focused towards camera updates as leaks and rumours suggest that the new phones will be getting a triple lens camera which should greatly enhance the picture and video quality which is pretty great already. Night time photography should also get a boost. The iPhone 11R though, is expected to get a dual lens setup, which is an upgrade from the single lens in the iPhone XR.

The new models will also get Apple's latest A13 series of processor which, if the trend is followed, are likely going to offer beastly perfomances, leaving their Android counterparts behind.

One big question for this year is whether Apple will finally drop the lightning connector for the USB Type C connector. Customers have been asking for this for ages and the time seems ripe for Apple to finally give in.

The new phones are also expected to get bigger batteries (up to 25% bigger) along with reverse charging capabilities, if reports are to be believed which will definitely be something to look forward to. Today's smartphones really lag behind in the battery department.

Other than these, iPhone 11 lineup may get an upgraded Face ID sensor for faster unlocks and better facial recognition and feature upgraded storage which could now start with 128GB instead of the 64GB currently.

The launch event is rumoured to be held on September 10th, so it's not too long before we know all the details finally.
