Long Island Rain Friday Some Sun Saturday Chilly Sunday
Long Island is sitting in between low pressure to the northeast that went through yesterday with heavy downpours and fog, and the next low to the southwest that is coming up for Friday. Skies right now are nice and clear as we head into the evening hours and we should have a nice quiet night that starts clear but finishes cloudy by morning with most lows in the 40s to near 50.
US SATELLITE
The system that is coming up for Friday has that impressive "swirl" look reflecting a strong short wave trough that will bring rain here. Rain will arrive by mid to late morning and will gone by late afternoon or early evening. Rainfall amounts are likely to be around a half inch or so in most places.
For now the radars are silent but look for activity to show up late tonight. With clouds and rain Friday and an ocean wind, temperatures will likely not get out of the 50s. Then we head into the weekend which will see some big swings. Saturday to me will be the better of the two days with sunshine and clouds and highs in the 60s to near 70. Saturday evening skies will darken with a few showers going by thanks to a cold front. This is going to set us up for a chilly Sunday with highs not out of the 50s and sun that fades behind developing clouds and a gusty wind. I would not rule out another shower Sunday afternoon or evening. It will have a chilly feel to it for sure.
SUNDAY FORECAST HIGH TEMPERATURES
Warmer air arrives next week. Monday we should see lots of sun with highs in the 60s to near 70. Then we will continue higher Tuesday with highs in the low to mid 70s. Wednesday and Thursday 80 is not out of the question with sunshine as long as the sea breeze behaves itself.
WEDNESDAY FORECAST HIGH TEMPERATURES
April is going to finish among the colder April's on record with temperatures finishing about 4 degrees below average for Islip. May on the other hand will start with above average temperatures which will be a nice switch. Take advantage of the nice weather while we have it because it is still spring and volatility is likely to continue.
