Aquaponics GREENS?

in aquaponics •  6 years ago  (edited)

Hello all,

I just wanted to throw this post out there because I was recently told that aquaponics is only good for growing greens. Sure some things grow faster and better than others. Melons for instance can be grown, but the vine gets so big it overwhelms everything.

But here are a few images to show what can be done.

You tell me does that look like greens to you?

How about this one?

or this?

So yes you can grow lots of things besides greens. We can dispel with those myths right now.

The key is understanding the nutrient uptake of the plants and how it relates to and interacts with the system.
To understand this process go back and read my previous posts on the nitrogen cycle and water chemistry. Its all in there.
And its all organic.

As some of these plants are heavy calcium feeders, you should consider checking out my other posts on calcium carbonate buffers and water chemistry if your interested in growing these types of plants.

Cheers.
