BGP & Military Hunts Innocent Rohingya in Maungdaw IDP

Maungdaw: More than half a dozen of Rohingya have been illegally accused and arrested for extorting money by Border Guard Police (BGP) and military in internally displaced people’s camp (IDP) in Maungdaw Township on 24th June 2018, according to updates received.


More than a hundred cooperated forces of BGP and military arrived at IDP camp on Hawarbil (Kyee Kan Pyin) village at about 9:00 am and rounded up the camps.
There, 60 of them rounded the area and other 40 went from camp to camp with the family-list and raided along with heavily interrogating the locals.
In the raid they checked all the Rohingya with the list they had and found no one or nothing out of the list. In between the raid, a Rohingya youth was arrested while returning home from the nearby fishing pond.
Immediately after his arrest, village admin requested along with assurance of victim’s guiltless, but he was not released. After that he was called to headquarter at no.6 of BGP post.
Victim was identified as Mohamod Hashim S/O Sayat Ahmed, 20 and was released in the evening by extorting 100, 000 Kyat.

  Again later in the afternoon more than twenty forces of BGP accompanied by Rakhine village admin, Zaw Phyu Tun arrived and hunted to arrest two more Rohingya in the area by false accusation. Both the victims were brothers and were identified as: Moostawbis S/O Haroon, 42 and Zawmil S/O Haroon, 38. Earlier in the morning they were also inquired with other Rohingya. Earlier from the same village four Rohingya were taken as forced labor by the BGP, whom are still not allowed to return home, by alleging them with terrorist links. Following the accusation on 25th June, they were called to the court and filed cases on them by the BGP of post No.6. Until now nobody know with what kind of case they filed on those innocents. But according to the village admin, Zaw Phyu Tun, they filed cases with accusations of relationship with terrorists in the region. The victims are identified to be: Md Rofiqe S/O Roosaw Ali, 32, Abulkalam S/O Md Khasim, 30, Omar S/O Nooruzzama, 18 and Maunzoor Rahmon S/O Shawbirong, 19. Money extortion is one of the rooted and acted as an effective genocidal tool of Burmese forces which have been destructing economic backbone of Rohingya since decades.
