Buthidaung: Two innocent Rohingya students were beaten into critical condition by Border Guard Police (BGP) around 6.30 pm at Buthidaung downtown in Buthidaung Township, according to reports received on 24th June 2018.

The victims were identified as 17-year-old Esa, son of Husson Ahmed, and 18-year-old Ismail, son of Abu Taher, both recent graduate students in matriculation exam. Esa completed his secondary education from Taung Bazar High School and Ismail is from Buthidaung High School.

Ismail and Esa went for an evening walk to the newly constructed Nga Yant Chaung-Nan Yar Kone bridge over Mayu river in Buthidaung for refreshment while some drunk BGP forces were patrolling the bridge, where they were strictly interrogated and then beaten ruthlessly.

After beating them, the BGP released only to recapture them and take them to the police station, where they were tortured into critical condition.
At 8.30 PM, Husson Ahmed along with other locals went to the police station seeking emancipation of his child. Initially, BGP denied releasing them and later released demanding an amount of 17,000,000 kyats from each victim.

Moreover, the remaining Rohingya's life has become uninhabitable in Arakan (Rakhine state) due to intolerable persecutions. Myanmar security forces extort money of an estimated amount 1,000,000 kyats from almost every taxi driver in Buthidaung, where many Rohingya are living in jobless condition.

A local said in desperation, "We can't go for work. Every now and then we are being extorted money by Myanmar security forces. How could we survive in this situation?"
The international community should take action immediately against the brutal Myanmar government to cease Rohingya genocide in order to uphold human rights. The UN Security Council should function to end the persecution and genocide of Rohingya under the UN charter.
