Buthidaung: Remaining Rohingya near the hilly village tracks of Buthidaung Township are harassed and threatened by either besieging, illegal raids or summoning them to a meeting, according to updates received on 23rd July 2018.
On 20th July, a military team equipped with heavy weapons like launchers arrived at the Phaing Dong village track and besieged the area for raids.
They massive raided each Rohingya household and did not find anything unlawful. After their unlawful raid, yesterday (23rd July) they called all the village administrators of the northern Buthidaung Township and asked whom are the people giving information to the media about their money extortion and other crimes in the area.
They further added, we are here responsible for taking care who is extorting money or doing any other crimes. Then, they threatened the Rohingya by saying that, within tomorrow you all must hand over those people or give us information about them. Read more on authorities' crimes: http://www.rvisiontv.com/rakhines-authorities-misuse-govt-assistance/ Military team gave the Rohingya the ultimate deadline and said if we don’t receive anything by tomorrow, we don’t know what you have to face here. “Military threatened us in this way, and we don’t know what to do about it, only Allah knows what will happen to us tomorrow,” explains a village elderly from the area. Similarly, on the same day Border Guard Police (BGP) called all renowned and village elderly Rohingya to a meeting. In the meeting they simply announced that, the hill located near your (Rohingya) villages have members of rebels hiding there. One of the BGP personnel stood and threatened the Rohingya by saying, if you do not hand over them to us or give us their information by tomorrow, situation will be worst for you all. According to locals, they have not seen any such member in the area and they do not know anything about them. Following the situations, a wind of fear is blowing over the remaining Rohingya in Buthidaung Township and situations seems to be more dangerous for them in the upcoming days.
