An international team of archaeologists discovered in Belize the largest ever tomb of the Mayan ruler around 1,300 years old .
In the room size of 4.5 to 2.4 meters , shuttling at a depth of about five meters underground, were found bones from the local rulers ' dynasty snake , plates with hieroglyphs, jade necklace , 13 blade knives from obsidian and 36 ceramic vessels .
The tomb was unearthed in the ruins of the ancient city of Xunantunich , on the river Mopan in the west of Belize . Xunantunich was at the end of the domination of May , from 600 to 800 AD , was the ceremonial center of the region.
Archaeologists came across the tomb during excavations of the central pillars of an old building .
The first analyzes show that the ruler at the time of death was between 20 and 30 years old and he was a strong muscular build. The body is placed so that the capital was facing south. More detailed analysis could reveal his identity and the cause of his death . The tombs were also found bones of deer or jaguar , indicating that the buried person had a high status , that probably is the ruler of the region.
It is interesting that the tomb was built together with the surrounding structures , as is usual for Egypt , but not in Mayan architecture. This fact indicates that the tomb was the main purpose of the whole temple.
The leader of the archaeological team Jamie Ejv from the University of Northern Arizona considers that the panel hieroglyphs could be the most important part of the new discoveries as they could clarify the history of the dynasty. Experts believe that they are transferred from the city of Karakol , which is located 40 kilometers to the south , and to describe the conquests of previous rulers snake dynasty K'an II .
