Gem of the day: Amphibious Home

Hi Steemians, today I would like to continue the momentum of curating amazing floating structure. Previously I had curate a total floating structure that resemble a boat house could be adapted in any where around the world.

However, in this series, I would like to curate a semi floating structure or an amphibious Structure. In 2014, it was first illustrated as a conceptual idea by Baca Architects to tackle the constant fear of rising sea level and unpredictable floods. As the project are taking in interest, the project was completed in 2016. The project constructed in the middle of the River Thames in Marlow, Buckinghamshire and it will however be the UK's first fully amphibious house

For an amphibious house, you could have the advantage of landed property such as you could enjoy your waterfront with your home build closely to a river bank. without worry of being flood.

In addition, the image shows the distant between the river bank and the house are definatly closer than other waterfront development where they must have a river reserve distance (10 meter and more before your property boundary).

The above images shows the flood defense mechanism in action.

This flood defense mechanism can cope with up to 2.5 metres of floodwater and it was well above projected flood levels for the area. To ensure the building stay in place and not floats away. It has Four guide posts set into channels in the flanks of the building control and support the movement.

I can say it have some changes on the appearance, but a lot better with glazing on the waterfront to generate a breath taking view.
