Location | Inle Lake - Myanmar |
The only way to see the villages of Inle Lake is by boat. They are like any other village, with schools, a post office, restaurants, shops and even governmental buildings. But all these buildings are on stilts as they are in the middle of a lake.
The village is arranged in a way that it looks like they have streets. They also have electricity as it is carried by electrical poles inside the water. And food comes from the famous fishermen of Inle Lake, but also from the many floating vegetable gardens.
Inle Lake is a freshwater lake. The water depth is only about 2 metres, but during the rainy season this can increase to about 3.5 metres. The water is clear and very calm.
Transiting around the "streets" of Inn Paw Khon Village gave me a sense of normality in a different way of life.
