Just steps from the main road through Senggigi, on the west coast of Lombok, I discovered this verdant retreat, high on a hill overlooking the ocean. [Right-Click Here to Enlarge Photo]
Open to paradise
While walking along the road, I noticed a stone archway. I entered through it, and found a large, lush garden bordered by this funky-looking restaurant / lounge area.
The unique “open roof” provided protection from the elements,* while opening up the space to a grand, expansive view of the sea stretching to the distant coast of Bali.
Close to civilization, but even closer to Eden
This structure had been built primarily from wood and stone. With its excellent blend of those traditional local materials and the stylish and elegant design, it offered a pleasant retreat from civilization – even though it was only minutes from town.

This is beautiful
Another masterful use of words
