Montserrat

Hello. My entry for today's #architecturalphotography is "Montserrat"

Monserrat is a Benedictine Abbey which hosts the Virgin of Montserat sanctuary.
The monastery started as the hermitage of Santa Maria, the mother of Christ in year 1025 and very soon there were stories of miracles worked by St. Mary the virgin of Montserrat and pilgrimages started to the site.
It is located high in Montserrat Mountains, about 38 kilometres from Barcelona . It is definitely worth a day trip when visiting Barcelona.

The above picture is inside the church at Monserrat. The name of the church is Basilica. The below one we are looking towards Montserrat.

It is really easy to get to from Barcelona. It's an hour's journey by train from Plaza de Espanya and you can buy return tickets which include the trip up to the monastery in a funicular railway. It is a steep ride in the cable car, but if you are not that good at heights, there is a small railway track which goes up the side of the mountain and take about 15 minutes.

The views from the top are fantastic, with lots of view points looking back down the mountains. There are lots of paths round the monastery and the area is also well known for hiking. But that's for another day or my next trip to Barcelona.
