When you look at a cities skyline do you think that as the buildings were going up the city planners where thinking about function or fashion?
Does fashion, the look of the city and style impact who lives there, who stays there and whether or not you recommend a city to people?
As I walked the streets of Brisbane I wondered about this. The city seems to be very people friendly, outdoor activity centric and quite photogenic.
Just some food for thought. Thanks for reading.

I often think the same, whether or not they consider the history of the area or are the just too preoccupied with going “bigger”!!

Hello @Scottdphoto
I have also done a lot of mindpuzzling about how architectures are thinking about how and why they are making a building look like the way they are.
In my opinion we had some great architectures in the ancient time if we see at creation of the colosseum, the Amphitheater and so on up to building of the great cathedrals and castles in the medical era.
Some time in the 1900 century I belive we saw a dropp in estate of a building and all focus was on function and how much space you could get.
But, luckily, now there seems to be a shift amongst the architects again and they have more focus on "candy for the eye" besides function and space.
So I have great faith in all the new buildings that are popping up around the world.
That is at least my thoughts :)
Kindest regards
@Gyldenhorn

I think the older the city is, the size of the land, and whether the population level is stable or growing has an affect.
Plus the need...
Some cities, like those near deep ports, on high ground which have limited land surface, or resources. Have to be constantly evolving if there is a large population that needs to live there. See Manhattan NY, San Francisco, Tokyo,Mexico City, Boston....
But take a cities that can sprawl, lack of finances for population, and you get nothing most of the time look at from a unifying design: Los Angeles, Indianapolis, Mumbai, or Santa Domingo. It's because of the cheaper land....

Quite an insightful report. Yes I studied architecture so I can relate to this. Some neighborhoods can be very depressing and burdensome as a direct result of its architectural choices. I've suffered migraine sometime, just taking what was supposed to be a leisurely stroll down some streets in Nigeria where am from. I really hope more attention could be paid to detail and the psychological effect these structures have on us humans. Just my 1 cent. Thanks for this post @scottdphoto. Very helpful.
