Here's a model I've been working on. The wood pieces have been laser cut, glued together, and laced up with thread. The tensile members alternate above and below the bridge deck, in order to resist moment forces in the continuous beam.

This looks like pretty intricate work. What scale is it, as in how large (or small) is the model? This is a bridge you're designing?

Thanks @galenkp. I'm designing a bridge for a school project. The model is at 1:100. It's about 100cm long and 7cm wide.

Cool. Pretty big. How long has it taken so far and how long will it take in total?

The model took about a day to make. It's a part of my thesis, which will take about 8 months.

Ah ok, makes sense. I wish you all the best with it...My brother, an electrical engineer has just finished his marine engineering degree...His graduation is next week. He was pleased to have passed considering the work involved. No different for you I guess.

Thanks. Yes. It's plenty of work. Congratulations to your brother.
