The Swedish studio Tham & Videgård Arkitekter is at the origin of this summer house on the island of Krokholmen. The house offers panoramic views of the sea, a nearby lighthouse and the vegetation and interior spaces are connected to three terraces.
The unusual profile of the house and its spectacular roof introduce a verticality both in the interior spaces and in the outer form, reminiscent of the structures of tents, evocative of the summer life. The clients wanted a single-storey house containing a series of private and common spaces, the architects introduced a partition wall that separates the open living room from bedrooms, bathrooms and storage spaces. Thus the central wall that includes the fireplace, a narrow opening gives access to the bedrooms, bathrooms and storage, facing the forest to the west. A large space housing the living room, kitchen and dining room is bordered on three sides by large windows that open to allow a smooth transition to the terraces. The space outside the long eastern façade looks directly onto the sea, while an extended part of the wooden wall forms a screen protecting a south-facing terrace.
