All wood Building

The only concrete in this amazing innovative project is in the foundations, but here is the tallest all-wood building in the United State which was just approved for construction. The raft slab foundation and a small concrete topping at the penthouse level for the mechanical equipment are the only visible use of concrete. This 11-story building will utilize a technology known as cross-laminated timber CLT. This CLT panels are constructed from small wooden planks bound to one another by a polyurethane adhesive, giving them the strength of traditional construction materials.

With the human race to embrace a more toxic free environment by reduction in carbon dioxide emissions and reliance on fossil fuels, this is a very welcome and approachable technology and the the first of it's kind in Northern America had been kick started.

Although, there existed a nine-story, 30-meter-tall Stadthaus tower in East London United Kingdom few years back ranked as the tallest until the approval and execution of this project.

An Architecture firm; Michael Green designed this 50,000 square foot landmark facility featuring a structure made of just woods. Situated on the corner of 5th Avenue and George Street, the building program includes a demonstration space on the main level with classrooms, a 75-seat lecture theater and research facilities for the University of Northern BC’s new master’s programs in wood engineering. The upper three floors provide future commercial space.

Generally in construction, Wood had been a part of buildings but not the whole projects are mainly wood. More than 1,700 cubic meters of wood was utilized for the primary structure, exterior cladding and interior finishes.

The building relies almost exclusively on engineered wood components including glulam columns and beams; cross-laminated timber (CLT) for the floor assemblies and core vertical panels; and laminated veneer lumber (LVL) for highly visible areas such as the feature stairs and canopy. With its distinctive features and advanced building systems, the center aims to be a model for future projects (potentially taller structures) and highlights the region’s expertise in designing and constructing innovative wood buildings........Chad Kaldal, Project Manager with PCL Constructors West-coast.

Cost Effective

At $25 million USD, beating many high rise building total construction fee, these structures can be erected faster than concrete and steel structures, and most importantly; wood is more far environmental friendly than it's counterparts.

Healthy, Safe and Environmental friendly

With Zero to less CO2 emission, there is a clean atmosphere good for both human, animals and plants. Toxic radiation is reduced exponentially. It is an innovation we all would love to embrace to make our environment more Eco-friendly.
