The Antwerp train station is one of the most beautiful in the world. Due to its architectural appearance it is also called the rail road cathedral. The initial building in an eclectic architecture style dates from 1905 and was designed by architects Louis Delacenserie, Clement van Bogaert and Charles Poupaert. In 2007 new additions were done to the station. It’s capacity was extended by creating 3 additional levels under the original rail platform. In this way capacity was enlarged without impacting the original design of the building too much. The extension was designed by architect Jacques Voncke.
