Fascinating Brutalist Architecture

in architecture •  7 years ago

I've been fascinated with brutalist architecture for a while. I don't exactly know why, maybe because these buildings just invoke some eerie feelings inside me that i cannot really explain. Or maybe i'm just weird :D

Brutalist architecture flourished from the 1950s to the mid-1970s, descending from the modernist architectural movement of the early 20th century. The term originates from the French word for "raw", as Le Corbusier described his choice of material béton brut, meaning raw concrete in French.

Here are some pictures of brutalist architecture around the world.

Dorman Long, South Bank Coke Oven Tower, England

 Buffalo City Court Building, USA

 Rozzol Melara Estate, Italy

Trellic Tower, England

Former AT&T Long Lines Building, USA

Mäusebunker, Germany

This building has actually been refurbished, this is what it looks like now.
