NYC BITTER COLD SHOT ON SCHEDULE SNOW CHANCE REMAINS

Good morning everyone. We have a seasonably cold start to the day today and we'll remain slightly below normal, but it should feel more comfortable today compared to yesterday with that wind. Quiet will be key for the next couple of days, then we watch a few features on the map that'll bring the chance of some flakes, then arctic air rushes in.

Expect a full-sunny start today, then some clouds begin to move in for a mix of sun and clouds. Winds will be much lighter today, but we remain a little below normal with highs in the upper 20's to low 30's. Clouds increase some more tonight, but that'll act as a blanket in the area and we won't drop much; lows in the mid to upper 20's.

To end the weekend, sun and clouds continue as our next weak boundary nears the area; sending temps into the low to mid 40's, but the wind kicks back in to make things feel much cooler.

REGIONAL RADAR

Seasonal temps move back in for Monday with mid 30's, but clouds will increase late with our much more significant/important system heading our way.

Clouds again will keep us from cooling much Monday night, so if any frozen precip arrives early and in the form of snow Tuesday morning, don't expect any sticking or anything of consequence before changing to rain. What follows behind our strong cold front is the concern.

LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY

Rain continues into Tuesday night, then may change over to a period of snow as that arctic air rushes in. Snow or no snow, this may be an issue because any wet surfaces will freeze overnight, creating issues for Wednesday morning's commute, especially on untreated roads.

We'll be keeping a close eye on this to see how much snow we can squeeze out of this if any. I've been saying more almost 2 months now that one of the only ways we can see some measurable snow in this snow-hostile pattern, is a strong front passing by, timed perfectly with colder air and a wave moving along the passing front. At minimum, there will be plenty of cold air to work with, lets see how much moisture is left.

LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA

Whether we see some flakes or not, the timing of brutal cold air seems on schedule. This means temps will continue to drop on Wednesday throughout the day, then single digits as lows overnight and into Thursday morning. Depending on how deep into the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic that core of arctic air gets, will decide on whether we climb out of the single digits or teens as highs for Thursday.

We could be looking at a repeat of MLK day temp-wise, or maybe even a slightly colder or slightly warmer variation of it. Either way, the most brutal of air will be brief and we begin to modify Friday and into next weekend.

MANY THANKS TO TROPICAL TIDBITS FOR THE USE OF MAPS
