Inaugurated in Rome "Universi Expressionists", a solo exhibition by Silvana Marrapodi, at the International Gallery in the Contesa Arte area of Teresa Maria and Tina Zurlo, in Via Margutta n.90. The artist has exhibited 5 works of her inspired by imaginary and distant universes, 3 of them are related to the period before the Coronavirus pandemic and subsequent lockdowns, in fact they are affected by the tranquility and change of the period. The other two, on canvas, were made in August 2022, after the lockdown and the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, the tones are in fact darker and the subjects more marked.
Graduated in Scenography at the Academy of Fine Arts in Reggio Calabria, Silvana Marrapodi discovers, outside her studies, painting with acrylic sprays on recycled media, which she immediately falls in love with.
"Dismay", the largest work in the Gallery, depicts the constant urbanization that man carries out, covering the soil taken away from nature. However, the buildings seem surprised to discover a boundless sky above them.
"Incanto", the most intense work presented, depicts the meeting of two stars, a planet and a comet made with glass dust. The work therefore depicts the encounters of human life that can be both eternal and momentary.
"Confusi" is a work inspired by a friend who practices action painting. The work depicts a moment of change and evolution of the artist, which is highlighted by the galaxy in formation.
“Chiavi di Volta” depicts architectural elements of the city of Petrizzi, a place visited during the summer. The elements enter and leave the planets, almost disappearing behind them, a representation of the constant abandonment of the inner villages of Calabria.
“Spectators” is inspired by the village of Montauro. On the left stands the Grangia di Sant’Anna, the city's granary, while on the right, the Matrice San Pantaleone Church rises above the Borgo. The houses are portrayed as spectators of a changing world that maintains its relationship with the past.
Present at the inauguration was the artist and art critic Mario Salvo, who said: "I notice the constant presence of 7 planets, depicting the 7 Virtues and the 7 Deadly Sins. There is an evolution in the construction of the planets on the canvas, first they are scattered and then it is as if they were ringed in a circuit. The link between vices, virtues and planets is interesting, to which the user freely gives each planet a personal interpretation. The technique and expressiveness of the works are excellent. "
Teresa Maria Zurlo states: “The planets can represent both Sins and the birth of a new World or a material or spiritual path. The interpretation of the works is therefore very broad. "
