This is a series of oil and encaustic paintings I created exploring the wonderful world of Birds of Paradise. The middle painting featuring the chameleon can be seen in an earlier post on my blog (A Mentor in Change). These birds push the bounds of evolution and drive personal aesthetics to the extreme. The female birds of Paradise are so picky when choosing a mate that they have pushed the males to evolve extreme and elaborate feathers and staging rituals. They've pushed evolution so quickly that there are 39 different species of birds of paradise! For a great look at all the different 39 species check out:
